Call Cory Mills: Tell Him to Vote "NO" On Trump's Bloated Billionaire Bill
Cory Mills needs to hear from you before he votes to sell out his constituents for billionaire profits.
There is no way of saying any of this gently. Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” or as I like to call it, his “Bloated Billionaire Bill,” has passed in the Senate.
It is now going back to the House, and if it passes, there will be devastating economic consequences all over the nation, Seminole County most certainly included.
If you’re a billionaire, though, surely this is wonderful news. However, there is not a single billionaire who lives in this county. So if you’re reading this, and you actually do call this county home, chances are you will stand to gain very little, if anything, from what this bill has to offer.
But there are tens of thousands of folks living here who rely on Medicaid. And/or SNAP benefits. And/or Free and Reduced Lunch for their children in our public school system. All of these are set to be deeply cut or restricted under the bill that most Senate Republicans and Vice President JD Vance just voted in favor of.
And if this bill passes, these folks will be asked to pay a steep, unimaginable price for yet another round of tax cuts for the richest among us, who are most certainly the folks who need it least.
Make no mistake here: people will suffer, and some will even die, if these programs are cut. The cruelty here is enormous, and completely pointless. After all, it’s likely that a significant amount of folks who rely on these programs supported Donald Trump and the Republican Party in 2024.
If these numbers alone are too abstract, let’s consider the real human lives, with real stories, real dreams, real pain, behind those numbers.
One example comes from local resident JJ Holmes. Recently, he wrote a letter to Representative Cory Mills urging a meeting with him regarding the proposed cuts to Medicaid in the bill. Holmes, a 21-year-old college student with cerebral palsy, insists to Mills that these cuts may have a direct impact on his ability to receive the care he currently depends on through Medicaid.
Mills’ office, however, simply responded with a letter seven weeks later, without mentioning Holmes by name or following up on his request for a meeting. Instead, they provided Holmes with recycled talking points about the bill, included a claim that the budget cuts were intended to prevent “illegal aliens” from accessing Medicaid services. An absurd statement to say the least, considering that undocumented immigrants already cannot access full Medicaid services.
And yet, Mills is the man who will be representing Seminole County when he votes in the House this week on whether this bill will actually pass.
And if he votes in favor, he will have done it without even looking any of his directly impacted constituents in the eye, like Holmes, and explaining why he felt their health and wellbeing were expendable. After all, it would have all been so a few billionaires in other, distant ZIP codes beyond our county line could make even more billions than they already have.
Call Cory Mills now. Urge him to reconsider his vote for this “Bloated Billionaire Bill,” and remind him that he serves his constituents in Seminole County, and not the 1% of billionaires who drive through or fly over us regularly without even paying us a second thought.
It seems to me like he could use a little reminder about that. He’s up for reelection next year. Let’s make sure he remembers who he actually works for.
